PLASTIC BLAST MEDIA

Plastic blast media is a versatile blast media used in a number of very different applications. Typically plastic blast media is utilized for removing coatings or contaminants where etching the workpiece substrate is of concern.  Plastic Blast Media is used extensively in the aerospace industry having replaced most chemical stripping.  Plastic Blast Media can be made from resin or it can be a recycled product.  Plastic Blast Media is also available in Mil Spec Certified grade.

Plastic Blast Media Characteristics

  • Random, typically angular in shape
  • Hardness:
    • Polyester (Type I) – approximately 3.0 on the Mohs scale
    • Urea (Type II) – approximately 3.5 on the Mohs scale
    • Melamine (Type III) – approximately 4.0 on the Mohs scale
    • Acrylic (Type V) – approximately 3.5 on the Mohs scale
  • Size ranges – Plastic blast media is sized in ranges due to the random nature of the shape and sizing.  Sizing is typically based upon US screen sizes
