MASS FINISHING / VIBRATORY
EQUIPMENT
Mass finishing or vibratory finishing is a process that involves a geometric shaped preformed media tumbling through a machine, while the work pieces flow freely through the mass of media. While traveling along, and through, the mass of media, the part is being worked on by the mass. This mass is typically driven by an out-of-balance motor, which creates the vibratory motion driving the mass and the parts around or through the machine.
Mass finishing is typically a wet process utilizing not only media, but also water and compound to create the desired finish. As noted, most media used in these processes are either ceramic or plastic, but other medias are used, such as steel and stainless steel usually for burnishing applications.
